The Give a Goat Project for Ugandan Students
Started in 2012, the Give a Goat project was started by a teen for his peers in Uganda. The program provides a source of income for kids who have lost their parents or whose families cannot afford to food or education for their children. It allows students in the U.S. to take a leadership role and spread awareness of the issue as well as raising money for students in need. Each donation of $125 purchases a fertile milk goat for a child in a developing country in Africa to help them go to school.
More than 450 goats have been given to kids in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. The impact has grown through the offspring the goats give birth to, and there are now 3,500 goats and 900 children who can pay their school fees.
