Environmental Education

Volunteer at local schools in South Africa, focusing on hands-on environmental education for the youth in the Kruger area and assist with sports coaching and development in a township school in Cape Town. The focus of the Sports Development Project is to uplift the community through sports and physical education in addition to educating and empowering students through lessons on health and nutrition.

Sample Itinerary: 18 days

Travel to Johannesburg. Drive to Kruger National Park area for service project, orientation

River safari, view hippos, crocodiles, elephants and much more. Evening Braai, barbeque by the bonfire in the bush under the stars

Service work, hands-on environmental education to create awareness, teach and inspire youth to appreciate nature and prepare students to work in the Kruger area, where tourism is a key economic engine. Evenings spent learning about South African cultural traditions, making beaded shoes, local foods and story telling

Fly to Cape Town, Visit Simonstown and hike along Boulder Beach to see the penguins, evening djembe drumming lessons

Table Mountain, Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, ferry to Robben Island, the former prison for
anti-apartheid activists, evening discussion with a former Robben Island prisoner

Morning service in Khayelitsha township leading workshops focused on health and well-being, coaching sports, teaching nutritional education garden building for healthy food options, afternoons visiting District Six Museum, Bo-Kaap walking tour and Malay cooking lesson, biking tour in the township to learn more about how people live in a township, enjoy a township restaurant

Drive to Hermanus, learn about the Great White Shark from a marine biologist

See a Great White Shark face to face on a shark cage dive, whale watching, explore the sandstone cliffs and caves of De Kelders

Drive back to Cape Town, local craft shopping en route, depart South Africa
