This is a great opportunity for your students to learn about environmental conservation and the health challenges of their peers living in an impoverished community. Join us in Nicaragua!

Community Ovens

In the Thomas Borges community of Leon, Nicaragua, homes are mostly made of found materials and tin sheets. We recently assisted families building eco-ovens in homes that were using less efficient, unvented fires. By lowering pollution and wood consumption, the eco-stoves provide immediate health and economic benefits, allowing families to divert resources from subsistence to education, including an after-school program.

Highlights

  • Eco-oven building in our partner community near Leon
  • Helping to reduce deforestation and improve health
  • Collaboration with peers and environmental activists to solve
waste problems on the island of Ometepe
  • Create activities to engage youth at risk and teach
  • Environmental awareness
  • Immerse yourself in local Nicaraguan culture
  • Volcano board, surf, swim, hike, salsa lessons and horseback ride
  • Kayak to see caimans, monkeys, and more

Arrive US

Doing Community service was such a rewarding experience. Being able to connect with both the kids and adults in the towns where we worked was so incredible, the most amazing people I’ve ever met. Meeting them has changed my life forever.
